A Different Perspective

The right view for every task. ADP is a family of specialized tools: diagrams, designers and editors, each tuned for one task where a specialized visualization beats a generic diagram or plain text.

Some things are understood better as a picture than as prose, and better as a picture made for that one task than as a general-purpose one. ADP gives each such task its own tool, and keeps what the tool shows in plain files beside the work it describes, so a view can be reviewed, branched and merged like any other text.

  • Technology assessment

An assessment of a new technology ends up as reports, interviews and scenario notes, or as boxes in a general-purpose whiteboard, where options, actors and consequences sit apart. Tools tuned for assessment show who expects what and which trade-offs follow, so the assessment can be argued over instead of read front to back.

  • Humans and agents together

When people and agents work together, what each is doing lives in prompts, task lists, logs and chat, or in a generic board neither was built for. Tools tuned for this collaboration show the shared work as tasks, owners and states, so a person sees at a glance what an agent did and why, and the agent reads the same file.

  • Clarity in textual data

Logs, notes and plain-text formats hide their structure in line after line, and a general-purpose editor shows them only as lines. Tools tuned to one format show the hierarchy, the repetition and the outliers directly, while the text stays the source of truth and still reads as text.

  • Systems and strategy

Strategies and system descriptions are written as prose and bullet lists, or drawn as boxes and arrows in a generic diagram tool, and neither shows how feedback, dependencies and position work. Tools tuned for systems and strategy draw the loops, value chains and landscapes as they are, so a decision can be traced to the structure behind it.

  • Knowledge and semantics

Ontologies, vocabularies and linked data are graphs written down as text, and a general-purpose editor shows the lines but not the links in which their meaning lives. Tools tuned for knowledge models draw the classes, concepts and relations, so a model can be checked by eye while the file stays the standard.

  • Software delivery

Pipelines, deployments and dependencies are spread over many configuration files, and a generic diagram of them is out of date the day after it is drawn. Tools tuned for delivery draw it from the files themselves, as it runs, so a change can be understood before it ships.

  • Planning and roadmapping

Plans kept as lists and documents lose time, order and what waits on what, and a general-purpose chart has to be redrawn with every change. Tools tuned for planning place the work on a timeline straight from its text and draw its dependencies, so overlaps and critical paths show at a glance.

  • Psychological and societal insights

How people and societies respond to change is recorded in articles, surveys and observations, and a generic chart flattens it to a single line. Tools tuned for these insights lay out hype, adoption and feedback in behaviour side by side, so patterns can be discussed rather than assumed.

Every tool type is specified once, in a specification language, and runs in each of eight hosts: the six IDE hosts (Standalone, Desktop, IntelliJ Platform, Visual Studio Code, Eclipse and ThinkRail), Notion, where a tool is a Notion add-on shown inside a Notion page, and Claude, where a tool opens within a Claude conversation.

  • Standalone

    In progress

A web workspace that runs on its own, next to any repository, with no IDE required.

    Not public yet

  • Desktop

    In progress

A native desktop application, written in Rust, with the standalone workspace and its tools and no browser, web view or local server.

  • IntelliJ Platform

    In progress

A plug-in that opens tools in real editors in IntelliJ IDEA, Rider, WebStorm and the other JetBrains IDEs.

    Not public yet

  • Visual Studio Code

    Planned

An extension that brings the same tools to Visual Studio Code.

  • Eclipse

    Planned

A plug-in that brings the same tools to the Eclipse IDE.

  • ThinkRail

    Planned

An IDE host that brings the same tools to JetBrains ThinkRail.

  • Notion

    In progress

Notion add-ons, web pages that each show one ADP tool inside a Notion page.

ADP is developed in the open by the etalii-adp organisation on GitHub. The formats the tools implement are specified in etalii-adp/etalii.adp, and this site is built from etalii-adp/etalii.adp.site.
